ABOUT

Join the first installation of Open LAB running January - April 2025.

You've been taking adult ballet classes once or twice a week for years. You love the mental. physical, and artistic challenges that a ballet class provides. Imagine if you could add an entirely new element to this aspect of your life. Open LAB is the ideal addition to your ballet routine that will illuminate a new facet of adult ballet training.

Open LAB is a chance for adult dancers from a variety of backgrounds and abilities to participate in the process of learning choreography, rehearsing, and performing as is often seen in youth ballet programs.

Participants will work with choreographer Libby Bullinger to perform a piece created uniquely for those enrolled. Learning choreography specifically designed for the dancers provides participants with a distinctive experience that emphasizes aspects of dance performance in a supportive rehearsal environment curated for adult recreational dancers.

  • Who is the program designed for?
Open LAB is a unique ballet program designed for adult dancers who have been studying ballet and are looking to explore the added challenge choreography, rehearsals, and performance.
  • What is the purpose of Open LAB?
Although participants can get a wide variety of experiences from Open LAB, the main goal is to provide a space for adult ballet learners to increase their involvement in the ballet world. Open LAB removes the typical barriers to rehearsing and performing ballet as a recreational adult student.
  • Do I need to have prior performance experience to participate?
No prior performance experience is required! Participants might be returning to performing or trying it for the first time. The requirement is that all dancers must have a concrete understanding of basic vocabulary and be committed to exploring a new element of dance training that comes with rehearsal and performance.
  • What will participants learn? What kind of choreography will we be doing?
You will learn choreography created specifically for the participants in the program. Choreographer Libby will assess the dance experience levels of the participants to create a piece unique to the group that will both highlight strengths and push dancers to a new level in their training. Participants will also learn more about the choreographic and rehearsal processes the are required to produce a new work and perform, even in a recreational setting. Concepts such as rehearsal etiquette, notating and recalling choreography, dancing with the audience's view in mind, and working with other dancers as a group are all skills you will develop.
  • I still have questions!
Please ask them! You can contact Libby Bullinger at dancelabcreative@gmail.com with any questions before registering.
