ABOUT

You've been taking adult ballet classes once or twice a week for years. You love the mental. physical, and artistic challenges that a ballet class provides. Imagine if you could add an entirely new element to this aspect of your life. Open LAB is the ideal addition to your ballet routine that will illuminate a new facet of adult ballet training.

Open LAB is a chance for adult dancers from a variety of backgrounds and abilities to participate in the process of learning choreography, rehearsing, and performing as is often seen in youth ballet programs.

Participants work with choreographer Libby Bullinger Snyder to perform a piece created uniquely for those enrolled. Learning choreography specifically designed for the dancers provides participants with a distinctive experience that emphasizes aspects of dance performance in a supportive rehearsal environment curated for adult recreational dancers.

FAQs

What is the structure of the program?

Open LAB involves 12 rehearsals and a performance. Each rehearsal will begin with a brief ballet warm up (about 30 minutes) followed by learning choreography, working to create formations and patterns, and refining steps.

On the day of the performance, participants will have a warm up and a short rehearsal to run the full piece several times and answer any final questions before performing.

How much ballet/performance experience do I need?

Open LAB is geared for adults that take ballet at an elementary or intermediate level. Participants should be able to complete a full 90 minute ballet class will barre and center work (including across the floor, turns, and allegro). Libby creates the choreography directly on the participants and tailors it to each individual's level, and there is a range of experience levels and technical abilities within participants.

Some participants studied ballet and performed in their youth, others have completed adult summer intensives with accompanying showcases, and others are making their ballet performance debut in Open LAB! You do not need performance experience to participate.
